If you want to save money on just about any vacation trip, you can choose a bed and breakfast hotel or accommodations. This means not having to buy breakfast for yourself, and enjoying what is typically a more relaxing and homey feeling during your vacation as well. 

Usually a bed and breakfast hotel is owned by a private individual rather than being part of a chain; they usually have their home renovated and remodeled to accommodate their guests. Sometimes you have a private bathroom with your room and sometimes not, depending upon the accommodations themselves.

You might be a bit hesitant about these types of accommodations since they're privately owned and may not have the reputation to maintain like a chain hotel. However, a bed and breakfast hotel typically is just as concerned if not even more so when it comes to making their guests happy, so you simply need to select the right hotel.

Look for one that has been in business for some time. Read customer reviews; usually they'll be posted on websites that list cheap bed and breakfasts or other such accommodations. Many sites also allow guests and others to rate them with a star system just like hotels.

To make things easier on you when staying at a bed and breakfast hotel be sure to note how they are different from other hotels. If you're in someone's private home, respect their space. If you share a bathroom, respect others and do your makeup and other such chores in your room so the bath can be free. Leave everything clean and presentable in these common areas.

Remember too that breakfast is usually served only during certain hours and your hosts are typically not going to prepare meals for you at any other time. Chances are you'll receive these reminders when you arrive at your bed and breakfast hotel; make sure you review all the rules and suggestions when you arrive so that your stay and everyone else's stay is as enjoyable as possible.
